Weekly budget planner: set a limit that actually holds
Monthly budgets break because the month is too long to feel. A week is short enough that one decision — spend or wait — still matters. Here is how to plan a weekly budget in about ten minutes.
1. Start from what's left over
Take your monthly income, subtract rent, bills, loans and savings — everything that leaves your account automatically. Divide what remains by 4.3 (the average number of weeks in a month). That number is your honest weekly limit, not a wish.
2. Split it into a few categories
Three to six categories is enough: groceries, eating out, transport, fun, household, other. More than that and you'll stop logging. Give each a rough share of the weekly limit, then let real spending correct your guesses.
3. Log every expense the same day
The planner only works if the number on screen is true. Logging takes seconds if you do it at the till; it takes an evening if you save it for Sunday.
4. Reset every Monday
A clean slate each Monday means one bad weekend doesn't ruin a month. Look back at the week that closed, adjust the limit if you missed it three weeks running, and start again.
